Leeds United given hope of Joe Rodon deal with Tottenham amid £10m news

Journalist Graham Smyth has suggested Leeds United still have hope of signing Joe Rodon from Tottenham, but accepts a deal will be difficult to pull off.

The Welshman became a fan favourite at Elland Road on loan from the Premier League side last season, despite missing out on promotion.

It has been suggested that there is interest from top division sides for his signature this summer [Alasdair Gold], but Smyth has outlined why he could yet return.

Speaking on Yorkshire Evening Post’s Inside Elland Road podcast, Smyth said: “Part of the case will be that he actually wants to be here. By all accounts, last season he found a home at Elland Road. So I think that will weigh in Leeds’ favour.

“I’m not saying money doesn’t talk, and Premier League status doesn’t talk, but I certainly think that when at least two of your best pals from your international team, plus all the friends you made last season, are still at Leeds – touch wood – then why not go back for a second year and get the job done?”

Leeds United could make Joe Rodon offer

Rodon was a consistent force in the defence under Daniel Farke last season as Leeds conceded just 43 goals throughout the season.

After losing out in the play-offs to Southampton and missing out on promotion, the Welshman returned to his parent club at the end of his loan.

Rodon was great for the Whites last season and would be an excellent signing if they can bring him back in this summer.

With plenty of Premier League interest in his signature already, it may prove to be an uphill task to sign him permanently now.

Rodon himself may feel that there is unfinished business at Elland Road but an opportunity of starting in the top division could prove too hard to turn down.

Although he was great last season, spending £10m on a player may be a stretch given the financial issues the club have to deal with this summer.
