Leeds United get Ruben Vargas eye-opener after £8.7m transfer news
Leeds United’s chances of signing Ruben Vargas seem to have been dashed before they ever really got going.
Daniel Farke is keen on attacking reinforcements, and the Whites are understood to have enquired about Vargas‘ situation with the Spanish club.
Leeds could reportedly get Vargas for £8.7million, with the five-time Europa League winners reducing their previous demands.
However, there could be a spanner in the works for any potential deal after new developments from Andalusia.
Leeds eyes opened after latest Vargas developments
Vargas has been mooted as a potential Leeds replacement for Jack Harrison, who looks set to join Fiorentina on a loan-to-buy deal.
However, a report from Diario de Sevilla on 14 January claims that the Peacocks, Bournemouth and Sunderland, have had their eyes opened about the 27-year-old.
It states that he has suffered a muscle injury that will keep him out for between five and seven weeks, which raises questions about his suitability for the Premier League.
What attackers could Leeds target instead?
Given that the 58-cap international is out for the remainder of the winter window, it makes little sense for any interested club to sign him this month.
Therefore, the Whites will likely be forced to elsewhere to bolster their ranks in the final third, and maintain their survival chances.
- Dominic Calvert-Lewin is Leeds’ top league scorer with nine goals
- He is followed by Brenden Aaronson and Lukas Nmecha on four strikes
- Anton Stach is the fourth-highest scorer with three goals to his name
The LS11 outfit have been linked with Wolfsburg’s 18-year-old forward Karlo Simic, but that seems like a gamble as he is unlikely to be first-team ready.
They continue to be mentioned when it comes to Artem Dovbyk’s future at Roma, after their previous interest in the summer.
FC Porto attacker Danny Namaso is another to be linked, but his situation is complicated, with current loan club Auxerre having the right to purchase 60 per cent of his rights if they get promoted.
Harry Wilson’s Fulham future is in doubt, and the Yorkshire side could test the waters with a bid for the winger, who will be a free agent in the summer.
