Leeds United: Fresh twist emerges in transfer chase for Burnley ace Manuel Benson

Leeds United have not made any contact with Burnley about signing winger Manuel Benson this month, according to Alan Nixon.

Writing on his personal Twitter account (20 January), The Sun journalist Nixon was responding to fan questions about reported interest in the Belgian winger.

Reports suggest that the club are eyeing the 26-year-old to replace Wilfried Gnonto, who they expect to join West Ham before the deadline, but Nixon reports that no deal is close and that there has in fact been no contact between the clubs about a deal.

Oh

It’s not really a surprise that the story about Benson is being questioned, considering the fact the club have been adamant they don’t want to lose anyone this month.

Djed Spence was allowed to leave after issues off the pitch behind the scenes, while the club respected the wishes of Luke Ayling because he’s a legend rather than an offer being made that was too good to refuse.

Unless West Ham, or another team, come in with a huge bid for Gnonto then he won’t be going anywhere this month and that means there is no need to talk to other teams about replacements.

With that said, obviously that can all change quite quickly so it’s not a surprise that those in charge of such matters are putting solutions in place should that happen and that’s probably where Benson comes into play.

It’s one to watch in the coming weeks but it would be a real shock if Leeds let Gnonto go and replaced him with Benson so it’s good news that this isn’t in the works right now.
