Leeds United: Fresh Joe Worrall transfer update emerges from Nottingham Forest

Trabzonspor and Besiktas are set to compete for Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall amid interest from Leeds United, according to Alan Nixon.

The Sun journalist reported via his Patreon [4 January] that the Turkish clubs are keen to sign the out-of-favour defender, having until Friday to seal any transfer deals.

Leeds missed out on Worrall’s signature, having wanted to sign him on loan in the January transfer window. Forest were only interested in a permanent move until the final day of the window, though.

Not worth the hassle for Leeds United

With Forest only changing their minds at the last second, it was not worth Leeds’ time to go after the signing of Worrall. The defender has clearly fallen down the pecking order at The City Ground for a reason.

With Murillo, Andrew Omobamidele and Wily Boly all preferred over the Englishman, Worrall has made just five Premier League starts this season.

Daniel Farke would be much better off with his current options of Liam Cooper, Pascal Struijk, Charlie Cresswell, and Ethan Ampadu deputising from midfield.

The Whites were also interested in a move for Ben Godfrey. And although he has also suffered from a lack of playing time this season, Sean Dyche has still commended his professionalism and proved his quality in Everton’s 2-0 victory over Burnley.

Another centre-back would have been ideal at Elland Road with a busy second half of the season to come but there is no need to make panic buys at this stage. Leeds are still very much in the running for promotion.
