Leeds United forward Sonny Perkins set to secure loan move to Oxford United
Leeds United forward Sonny Perkins is set to join Oxford United on a season-long loan deal, according to Phil Hay.
The Athletic journalist reported on 25 August that the 19-year-old is being allowed to make the temporary switch away from Elland Road to secure some first-team football.
The England U-19 international has only featured once for the Whites this season after coming on as a late substitute in the opening-day draw at home to Cardiff City.
Valuable experience
This is a move that makes sense for Leeds as Perkins is a talented forward who is unlikely to feature too much in the first team this season.
That means the best option is to send him out on loan to gain some senior football experience that could be invaluable to his development, instead of just playing for the Whites’ U-21 side.
He has, however, impressed massively during his time playing for the youth side, having scored 13 goals in 24 appearances since joining from West Ham last summer.

The forward grabbed the headlines when he registered his first professional goal with a crucial late equaliser for Leeds in the FA Cup third-round tie against Cardiff City in January.
The Whites will be hoping a move to the League One side will be able to provide him with increased minutes and the opportunity to score goals and build his confidence up ahead of a return to Elland Road at the end of the season.
