Leeds United favourites to sign Alex Nubel in multi-million deal as offer submitted to Bayern Munich

Leeds United have made an offer to Bayern Munich to sign goalkeeper Alex Nubel permanently as they anticipate offers for their current No 1 Illan Meslier, according to the Daily Mail.

The German giants are willing to sell the 26-year-old immediately, but new manager Daniel Farke may face competition from Stuttgart for his signature.

Leeds are favourites however as they are willing to pay £6.8million for his services, while Stuttgart have offered another loan to the shot-stopper following a two-year loan spell at Ligue 1’s Monaco.

Preparing for the inevitable?

While there have been no major reports this summer for Meslier to leave Elland Road, he is expected to leave as he is too good for the Championship despite a rocky campaign in the Premier League last season.

Leeds continues to manage a turbulent time in their squad, with many outgoings including Robin Koch [Leeds United] and Rodrigo [Daily Mail] changing the face of the team before their most recent plunge into the second division.

The goalkeeper position has been an area tipped for change too, and an approach for such an experienced shot-stopper like Nubel could get Leeds fans very excited.

While three years Meslier’s senior, he is still just 26 giving him plenty of time at the top level. The German, despite having obvious ability, is perhaps just a cut below the standards of Bayern Munich. He is unlikely to topple Manuel Neuer or Yann Sommer at the club, so a move away benefits all.

He also played every match for the last two seasons for Monaco in Ligue 1, so his sharpness and experience will be quality which is just what Leeds will need.

If Meslier is off, Leeds’ current No.2 Kristoffer Klaesson is unlikely to make the step up considering his young age (22) and lack of first-team experience. Joel Roble’s departure too sees this position looking rather thin meaning recruitment is needed.

The Whites could be in pole position to get their man, but perhaps a goalkeeper of Nubel’s could secure a move to a top-flight club.
