Leeds United favourites in £30m Ismaila Sarr transfer hunt as Manchester United also in pursuit

Leeds United are “favourites” in the race to sign Watford forward Ismaila Sarr before the summer transfer window closes, according to The Mirror.

The newspaper reported via their print edition on Friday (12 August, page 56) that Watford “face the prospect” of Sarr, 24, quitting Vicarage Road before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

It is understood that Leeds are leading the £30million race for the Senegal international, who’s also wanted by Manchester United.

Foot Mercato did report on 10 August that an agreement was close for Sarr to head to Elland Road but that was rubbished by The Athletic’s Phil Hay.

Not going to happen

It doesn’t feel as though a deal for Sarr is a goer.

Maybe there’s someone at Watford trying to drum up interest in the highly-rated attacker or the player’s agent is out there trying to get his client back into the Premier League.

Sarr scored from his own half against West Brom on Monday night to showcase the talent that he has to interested clubs.

If Leeds were keen on signing Sarr and saw that goal at The Hawthorns then they’d surely have made a bid for him already because it was absolutely incredible.

However, he’s a winger first and foremost and Leeds do not need to add to their wide options between now and the end of the summer transfer window unless someone like Jack Harrison moves on.

Leeds need a striker.

While Sarr can play up front, he’s not a natural in that role and we’d much rather see a proper centre-forward come in who can compete with Patrick Bamford for a spot in Jesse Marsch’s starting line-up or play alongside the England international if Marsch goes with two up top.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay has named two forwards linked with Leeds with a major transfer update shared.
