Leeds United fans won’t be happy as Jaidon Anthony return rumours revealed

Jaidon Anthony would struggle to live up to expectations if he were to return to Leeds United as Crysencio Summerville’s replacement, according to Michael Normanton.

Anthony, 24, joined the Whites on a season-long loan from Bournemouth last summer but struggled to earn much game time and only started twice in the 2023/24 Championship season.

The Square Ball editor Normanton has heard rumours about the left-winger returning to Elland Road this summer but he doesn’t think fans will buy it if he’s expected to fill the void left by Summerville after his £25million move to West Ham United.

Speaking on the latest episode of The Square Ball on YouTube (16 August), Normanton said: “It’s a tough act to follow for anyone coming in, to be the Gray replacement, the Summerville replacement or the Rutter replacement.

“These are people who, certainly in the case of Gray and Rutter, people have loved and Summerville was amazing last year as well.

“If, for example, someone came in – Jaidon Anthony is a name I’ve heard linked with coming back – he’s a good player but if he was to come in and sold to us as a Summerville replacement, I think people would be quite rightly annoyed about it and it would put a lot of pressure on him.”

Who will Leeds United sign before summer transfer window deadline?

With Summerville and Archie Gray both gone, it seems that Georginio Rutter could also be on his way out with Brighton triggering the forward’s £40million release clause at Elland Road [Sky Sports].

Understandably, Leeds United fans are in uproar about the news because they’ve already seen two high-profile exits from Elland Road this summer – plus Glen Kamara – without anyone really of note being signed.

Sure, Joe Rodon has been signed permanently after his successful loan last season and right-back Jayden Bogle has come in from Sheffield United. But other than them, loanee Joe Rothwell and back-up goalkeeper Alex Cairns, it’s been a very quiet window for the Whites in terms of incoming.

Now, there are two weeks to go until the transfer window shuts and there’s barely any talk about who could be coming in to replace the big-name stars who have gone or are going.

It’s no wonder fans are upset.
