Leeds United face Wilfried Gnonto battle after new transfer developments

Leeds United face an uphill battle to keep Wilfried Gnonto at the club this summer, according to talkSPORT.

Writing on their website (16 July), the news outlet reports that the Italy international has told the club he wants to leave after previously doing the same last summer before he was forced to stay.

Everton have held fresh talks with his representatives about a potential deal while Newcastle are also interested [TEAMtalk, 15 July], and an exit away from Elland Road now looks more likely.

Leeds United to lose Wilfried Gnonto?

The summer transfer window has had a lot of Leeds fans fearing the worst and a lot of those fears were justified when Archie Gray joined Tottenham.

Crysencio Summerville is also expected to move on [Phil Hay, 27 May] at some point, while Glen Kamara is on his way to Rennes after just 12 months with the club [Fabrizio Romano, 13 July].

However, Leeds are now in a position where all sales will be on their terms financially [YEP, 17 June] but Premier League clubs have the funds to make deals happen and Gnonto pushing for an exit again could make things even more difficult for the board.

Daniel Farke made it clear last summer that Gnonto was forgiven for the way he went about trying to force a move, but that he wouldn’t be forgiven again.

The club’s hand is significantly weakened now after failing to get promotion, and the chances of Gnonto still wearing the white kit next season seem very unlikely.
