Leeds United eye Tyrique George transfer with ultimate Chelsea irony on the cards

Leeds United will be fully aware of the irony amid fresh links with teenage Chelsea talent Tyrique George.

Leeds are eyeing up new attackers for the January window, with Daniel Farke aware more quality – and indeed quantity – is required in the final third.

While results have improved massively for Leeds of late, there is still an understanding that relegation remains a real possibility unless work is done next month.

According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea winger George is one of those being eyed by Leeds – as well as Everton and others – ahead of the window opening.

And it is not the first time George has been intertwined with Leeds’ transfer business this year.

Tyrique George behind Harry Wilson and Leeds transfer collapse

Deadline day back in the summer transfer window was dominated by talk of Fulham’s Harry Wilson potentially joining Leeds.

Wilson appeared to be on the verge of joining Leeds, but a deal could not be concluded before the deadline struck.

It was reported at the time that Fulham blocked Wilson’s exit due to a failed move for George, with Chelsea deciding to keep him instead.

However, it is now claimed George could be on the move in January as he is ready to leave Stamford Bridge to play regular football.

That could include a permanent exit, with Leeds said to be monitoring the situation. However, the report does add that the Whites would prefer to prioritise other attacking positions if possible.

Should George indeed end up at Elland Road, though, it really would be ironic given he indirectly played a part in Wilson’s move to Leeds not going through.

Why move for Chelsea starlet George doesn’t make sense

While 19-year-old George does look a real talent – he’s been used 10 times by the Blues this season – Leeds are not in a position to be buying for the future in January.

Realistically, it may be that only one new player is brought in due to financial constraints. If that is to be the case, it needs to be a player who can slot straight in and start pretty much every game.

Wilson, for example, would be the perfect option. That deal is surely off the cards, though, due to Fulham also being in relegation trouble.

Chelsea will more than likely ship George out to sister club Strasbourg in January and watch his valuation rocket before selling down the line. For now, this is a deal Leeds need to avoid.
