Leeds United eye Serbia ace Petar Ratkov amid Red Bull development

Leeds United are tracking Red Bull Salzburg star Petar Ratkov, according to Give Me Sport.

The news outlet reported online (18 June) that the Whites’ interest in the 20-year-old pre-dates Red Bull’s strategic investment in the club.

Salzburg beat out competition to sign Ratkov last summer for £4million from Serbian side TSC.

Red Bull Leipzig are tracking the Serbia international with a move to Salzburg’s sister club seen as more likely in the coming years than this summer, opening the door for Leeds to pounce – particularly with their new Red Bull connections.

Will Leeds United sign Petar Ratkov from Red Bull Salzburg?

This transfer rumour would have caught the eye of plenty at Elland Road due to Leeds’ connection with Red Bull.

Whether or not that helps the club to facilitate a deal remains to be seen. However, if the club were able to lure Ratkov to Elland Road, it would certainly be an exciting signing.

Ratkov is currently competing with Serbia at the 2024 UEFA European Championship and plenty of Leeds fans will likely be keeping a closer eye on his performances after this transfer update.

However, with Red Bull Leipzig also holding an interest in the youngster, a deal could prove difficult to pull off.

While Leeds do now have their own connection with Red Bull, that is still not likely to help them beat out any interest from Leipzig.

For now, it seems like player sales remain the priority at Elland Road with the club in need of raising some cash.
