Leeds United eye Owen Beck loan transfer as Liverpool exit update emerges
Leeds United have joined the loan race to try and sign Liverpool youngster Owen Beck ahead of the transfer deadline, according to Dave OCKOP.
The Liverpool insider reported via his website on Monday (12 August) that the Whites are joined by QPR in holding an interest in the 22-year-old who spent last season on loan in Scotland with Dundee.
Celtic are also known to be keen to sign Beck this summer, but the Hoops are targeting a permanent transfer and a gap remains between them and Liverpool’s valuation which is believed to be around £3million.
Arne Slot’s side are hoping that the Welsh youth international will put pen to paper on a contract extension at Anfield before then heading out on loan.
Will Owen Beck exit Liverpool amid Leeds United loan interest?
Beck is primarily a left-back and while Junior Firpo impressed in the second half of last season, Leeds United do need to bolster their options at fullback before the transfer window slams shut at the end of August.
The Dominican Republic international doesn’t have the strongest fitness record and the only other natural left-back in the squad is Sam Byram who has also suffered with frequent injury issues throughout his career.
Beck would provide a reliable option for Daniel Farke to call upon, while also being able to deputise in a more advanced role if and when required to provide some cover following Crysencio Summerville’s move to West Ham United.
If Liverpool are more interested in sending the 22-year-old out on loan rather than a permanent exit, that could boost the Whites’ chances of getting a deal over the line in the coming weeks.
While nothing appears to be imminent at this moment in time, this could be one to keep an eye on as things can move incredibly quickly at this stage of the transfer window.
