Josh Brownhill transfer stance emerges as Leeds United eye Burnley midfielder

Leeds United have been credited with an interest in Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill ahead of the January transfer window, according to TBR Football.

The report (20 November) states that Leeds are one of several English clubs looking at Brownhill whose contract is up at the end of the season and Burnley are finding it difficult to negotiate fresh terms with the 29-year-old.

However, the report adds that the Whites will struggle to complete a deal as Brownhill is unlikely to want to swap one Championship club for another.

TBR also note the likes of West Ham, Celtic, and clubs in Saudi Arabia are interested in Brownhill’s signature.

Josh Brownhill would be a major coup for Leeds United

While Leeds are stacked in the midfield area, one thing they somewhat lack is Championship experience and Brownhill has it in abundance.

With 382 league appearances in English football, 204 of which have been in the Championship, Brownhill is a player who knows what it takes to succeed at this level having earned promotion with the Clarets in the 22/23 season in which he featured 41 times.

During that season, he registered an impressive 15 goal contributions from midfield while also contributing defensively under now FC Bayern manager Vincent Kompany.

Brownhill was named in the EFL Team of the Season for his performances, which carried through to the Premier League where he remained a constant figure in the Burnley side.

His signing would add a new dimension to the Whites’ midfield and significantly boost their hopes of promotion.

With his contract up in the summer, Leeds could potentially sign him at a cut price with Burnley potentially tempted to cash in early to avoid losing him on a free in the summer.
