Leeds United explore free transfer to sign Michael Lang with one deal done

Leeds United are looking to add defensive cover by exploring a free transfer for Swiss right-back Michael Lang, according to the Daily Mail.

It was reported on page 75 of their print edition [23 August] that a deal was being looked into for Lang, 33, who left Basel in the summer.

This comes after the club have completed a move for Largie Ramazani for £10m from Almeria, with reinforcements needed before the 30 August deadline.

Leeds United look into Michael Lang deal

With experienced heads such as Liam Cooper and Luke Ayling departing Elland Road for good this summer, veteran full-back Lang could be a smart piece of business on a free transfer.

Leeds United do have Jayden Bogle on their arrivals list in the same position, but with the threadbare nature of Daniel Farke’s squad, there remains need for further incomings.

Lang has enjoyed a steady European career – based mainly in Switzerland – as well as a spell in Germany, and has 31 senior Swiss caps.

The defender has played at three major international tournaments including two World Cups, and has Champions League experience under his belt.

Ramazani’s switch to Elland Road provides a welcome boost, with clubs expected to make life tricky for Leeds in the final week of the window in terms of the fees requested for players, aware of their situation.

In other Leeds news, Georginio Rutter and the club may have severed all ties.
