Leeds United: ‘Expensive’ Joe Gelhardt exit update emerges as Huddersfield Town transfer mooted

Alan Nixon has suggested any potential deal for Huddersfield Town to sign Leeds United forward Joe Gelhardt would come at a high price.

The Sun journalist took to Twitter where he said the deal would be an expensive one for Huddersfield to pull off if they wanted to make a permanent move for him in January.

Gelhardt has made just five Championship appearances under Daniel Farke this season, with just two of those coming from the start, leading to speculation about his long-term future at Elland Road.

Taking to his personal Twitter account, Nixon replied to a Huddersfield fan enquiring about a potential deal as he reported: “That would be pretty expensive.”

Time for him to move on

Having dropped out of the Leeds team of late due to the strength of their attack, and after spending the second half of last season on loan at Sunderland, the time may finally have come for Gelhardt to face a more permanent exit from Elland Road.

If the suggested expensive fee could be secured by Leeds, the club may see it as an important piece of business to get done, with outgoing players and incoming funds crucial to the spending they will be able to do under Financial Fair Play rules.

Under the guidance of Jesse Marsch in the Premier League, it looked like Gelhardt would have an impressive long-term future at Leeds, but his form has since dipped and he has fallen out of favour at the club.

Whether or not Huddersfield could afford the deal or not would be a different question although it seems their chances are slim, but if Leeds are to let him go permanently, it will have to be a deal that suits them first and foremost.
