Leeds United: Ethan Amapdu source shares 49ers Enterprises transfer move at Elland Road

A source close to Ethan Ampadu has shared that 49ers Enterprises’ takeover of Leeds United was the key to securing last summer’s transfer deal, according to Phil Hay.

The Athletic journalist reported on 25 March that Ampadu would not likely have joined Leeds under the “unstable” previous ownership, but the plan for success laid out by the 49ers made the difference.

Nick Hammond, the club’s transfer consultant appointed by the new ownership, was also key in bringing the Welshman to Elland Road, while Daniel Farke held personal conversations with him ahead of the deal.

The source also told The Athletic that the 49ers’ willingness to appoint people who are good at what they do, acknowledging their own lack of know-how in the football world, was key to the success of the deal – and likely to many others too.

That self-awareness shown by the new owners has allowed them to make key decisions based on information available to them, rather than immediately assuming they would be the ones to take the club forward. It’s proved a stark contrast to previous management.

Andrea Radrizzani’s ownership, particularly towards the end of his time at Elland Road, was a shambles. The situation with Victor Orta and the managerial merry-go-round in the final months was a sign of an imploding club and ownership. 49ers Enterprises has reversed that.

The decision to bring Ampadu to Elland Road is proving better with each passing day, given the role he has played and the praise he has received under Farke, and decisions like that are what will help the club progress forward.
