Leeds United enter race for Real Madrid talent Gonzalo Garcia – £17.5m bid already in pipeline

Leeds United could make a swoop for Gonzalo Garcia from Real Madrid in January.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin signed for Leeds on a free transfer over the summer, but has failed to truly hit the ground running at Elland Road.

Joel Piroe is also struggling for Leeds minutes in the Premier League, despite being the Championship top scorer as promotion was confirmed.

The January window could pose an opportunity to add attacking depth to Daniel Farke’s squad, with Fabio Carvalho of Brentford already linked to Leeds.

The Whites could also move to sign Garcia as they look to add goals to their side ahead of the business end of the Premier League campaign.

Garica emerged as a target for Leeds over the summer as the LS11 club looked to add to their forward options.

Noah Okafor, Lucas Nmecha and Calvert-Lewin have all played a role in the opening nine games of the campaign since signing.

Leeds have scored only nine Premier League goals, the joint-fourth fewest in the entire division, which may soon represent cause for concern.

That could be helped by the introduction of a new striker who could change the tide in front of goal for the Yorkshire club.

On The Minute reported on 26 October that Leeds have joined the race to sign Gonzalo Garcia from Real Madrid in January.

Farke and Co. are in a long line of interested parties, with Aston Villa said to be leading the race ahead of the winter transfer window.

The Villans are preparing a £17.5million bid for the 21-year-old, while the Whites see the Spaniard as a long-term investment who can also thrive in their forward line this season.

Leeds could find ‘the next Raul’ in Garcia

The Elland Road faithful already have a positive selection of forward options available to them.

Mateo Joseph was loaned out due to a lack of opportunity, underscoring the already apparent strength in depth.

Adding another youngster could prove risky, but there is no doubt Garcia would bring plenty of pedigree.

Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has already compared the striker to legendary forward Raul, a sentiment that can’t be overlooked.

He said: “He is a typical number 9. In some aspects, he reminds me of Raul Gonzalez — he’s always in the right position and always waiting for the chance. His work ethic is great.

If Leeds could complete the signing of a talented forward who comes with such high esteem, there would likely be a buzz around LS11 and Garcia.
