Leeds United double exit on the cards for Joe Gelhardt and Ian Poveda in January transfer window

Leeds United forwards Joe Gelhardt and Ian Poveda are both wanted men ahead of the January transfer window, according to Darren Witcoop.

The Mirror journalist reported via his personal X account on Tuesday (12 December) that there’s interest in the duo ahead of January but Leeds will not allow either to leave until a replacement is signed.

Gelhardt, 21, hasn’t played in the Championship since a one-minute cameo against Millwall in September while Poveda, 23, is currently away on international duty with Colombia.

Let them go, get one in

Leeds cannot keep Gelhardt and Poveda around if they’re not going to play them.

They’re young players who need to keep on playing regularly in order to develop so Leeds aren’t doing any favours for them right now.

Poveda has always been a bit of a bit-part player but this season he’s played just 139 minutes in the Championship in six appearances and now he has a cap for Colombia, he’s had a taste of the high life and will want to keep that.

He simply won’t if he continues to be a bench-warmer in West Yorkshire.

Leeds United

As for Gelhardt, it’s a massive shame to see him struggling the way he is.

He’s suffered from injuries this season but even if he was fully fit, would Daniel Farke be playing him that much?

It’s a huge injustice that Patrick Bamford has been preferred over Gelhardt by multiple managers so we’d rather just see him sold on in January so that he can make a name for himself elsewhere.

Sell him and get a sell-on clause or even a buy-back clause inserted into the deal.

In other Leeds United news, Farke is predicted to drop a forward and make two changes against Sunderland.
