Leeds United discount transfer on the cards in new James McAtee update
Leeds United, along with Nottingham Forest and Bayer Leverkusen have been linked with Manchester City midfielder James McAtee.
The 22-year-old has made several senior appearances for the Citizens but has failed to become a regular part of Pep Guardiola’s plans.
His contract at the Etihad Stadium runs out at the end of the 2025/26 season and it’s still unclear whether or not he will be handed a new deal.

McAtte could be available for £20m this summer
It was understood that the Citizens were willing to part ways with the 22-year-old for a £25million fee.
However, according to LeedsLive on 14 May, even £20million could seal the deal for the Whites or any other clubs looking to secure his services.
However, they will face stiff competition with Nottingham Forest also making a move to secure his services ahead of the Elland Road outfit.
James McAtee’s 2024/25 Premier League statistics | Total |
Appearances (starts) | 15 (3) |
Goals | 3 |
Expected goals (xG) | 2.80 |
Touches | 11.6 |
Big chances created | 2 |
Accurate passes | 6.5 (84%) |
While he has gotten more game time of late, he could leave this summer in order to get regular playing minutes.
He is still waiting for a contract offer from the Manchester outfit and a failure to receive one could see him parting ways with them.

Leeds United have to convince McAtee to seal Elland Road transfer
Leeds can convince McAtee to join them over Nottingham Forest by emphasising guaranteed playing time and a starring role at Elland Road.
With only Brenden Aaronson as a natural No.10, McAtee would be a key creative force in Daniel Farke’s system, unlike at Forest, where competition from Morgan Gibbs-White and others could limit his minutes.
Leeds’ passionate fanbase and packed stadium offer a platform to boost his profile, as seen with Cole Palmer’s rise after leaving Manchester City.
The Whites’ transfer budget signals ambition, ensuring a competitive squad for Premier League survival.
Additionally, Farke’s track record of developing young talent, like Max Aarons, could appeal to the 22-year-old.
While Forest may offer European football, Leeds can highlight their storied history and long-term vision under 49ers Enterprises, positioning McAtee as a central figure in their Premier League return.
