Leeds United: Diego Llorente could now move in ‘sensational transfer reversal’

Leeds United loanee Diego Llorente could be set to quit Roma for PSG this month, according to Il Romanista.

The Italian news website has reported online (16 January) that the French giants are following Llorente’s situation and are seriously considering buying the player as early as this month, in what has been described as a “sensational transfer reversal.”

Roma are tempted by the money involved and considering the proposal, but would first need to find a low-cost replacement for the Spaniard who has been a key player for them this season.

The 30-year-old has started 17 of the club’s 20 Serie A matches so far during the current campaign, and Roma will now decide on the player’s future in the coming days.

Confusion

This can only be described as an incredibly confusing situation for Leeds United supporters. From the report, it does not appear clear exactly what Leeds’ role in this situation is, but if PSG are willing to throw some cash around and sign Llorente permanently this month, that can only be good news for Daniel Farke.

The defender has been on loan in Italy for the past year and was due to return to Elland Road this summer when he will be turning 31.

If the Whites can secure some cash mid-season for the forgotten man, they would be able to perhaps reinvest that money into a younger player who can help continue the club’s push for an instant return to the Premier League.

It is unlikely many supporters in West Yorkshire will lose much sleep over Llorente leaving the club permanently, and if it were to happen this January rather than next summer, that would be even better.

In other Leeds United news, talks over the permanent future of another defender at the club are now underway.
