Dean Jones makes ‘lucky’ Leeds United transfer claim amid Crysencio Summerville gossip

Journalist Dean Jones says Leeds United “must feel lucky” that Luis Sinisterra left in the summer and not Crysencio Summerville.

Sinisterra returned to the Premier League with Bournemouth on a season-long loan in September, whereas Summerville stayed put at Leeds.

The Dutchman has been one of the standout performers in the Championship this term with 12 goals and six assists in 23 matches.

That has inevitably led to suggestions of a move away from Elland Road this month, and Jones says Leeds will be bracing themselves for offers.

The former Eurosport journalist told GiveMeSport [5 January]: “He’s scoring a goal pretty much every other game.

“And when you’ve got someone of his age playing in this way, you have to make the most of it.

“Leeds definitely must feel lucky that things worked out this way in terms of him staying and Sinisterra going because at the time I’m sure it was all a bit nervous and, on the decision making front, you’re probably a little bit unsure that it was definitely the right thing.

“And we’d seen flashes last season of how good Summerville could be. Leeds just have to hope that no offers do come in in January, and he retains full focus on the job in hand.”

Fingers crossed

Losing Sinisterra to Bournemouth so late in the transfer window was a big blow, even if Jaidon Anthony headed in the opposite direction as a replacement.

However, Summerville has more than stepped up this season, with Sammie Szmodics (19) and Adam Armstrong (22) the only players to have contributed to more goals than the Leeds gem’s 18 [FBref].

That form is obviously a huge positive for Leeds, yet at the same time it means clubs from the Premier League or elsewhere on the continent will be taking notice.

Indeed, journalist Conor McGilligan suggested on his One Leeds Fan YouTube channel [3 January, 23:09] that Newcastle United could be tempted to make an approach this month.

Just like Wilfried Gnonto in the summer, Leeds will have no intention of selling even if an offer does come in. However, a massive bid could simply prove too much to turn down.

In an ideal world, United will not have a decision to make as no teams will come in for Summerville. On his current form, though, that seems unlikely.

In other Leeds United news, a journalist sent a four-word message when asked if the Whites intend to sign a player from Burnley.
