Leeds United are set to miss out on signing Hearts left-back Aaron Hickey after he decided to return to former club Celtic, according to 90min.
The football news website reports that Leeds, Arsenal, Chelsea and Everton had all scouted the 17-year-old with him expected to leave Hearts after their relegation from the Scottish Premiership was confirmed.
However, unfortunately for Leeds, Hickey is intent on staying in Scotland and will reportedly head down the M8 from Edinburgh to Glasgow.
Hickey isn’t your usual 17-year-old who is impressing at youth level.
The full-back, who can play on either side of the defence, has already made 34 senior appearances for Hearts and last year became the youngest player to start in a Scottish Cup final.
Hickey’s personal achievements are impressive but he has accomplished them at a less-than-impressive club, who now stand to lose one of their best young players to a Scottish rival.
Leeds have been on the look-out for young talent in the Scottish leagues and last year they signed Stuart McKinstry from Motherwell.
Victor Orta is always open to bringing in talent from outside of England’s borders but Hickey does not seem as though he’ll be the next youngster to head to Thorp Arch, even though Marcelo Bielsa has shown a great reliance on youth in his senior side.
It’s the player’s loss.
In other Leeds United news, there could be an issue with two of Leeds’ remaining fixtures due to the Government.
