Leeds United deal for Rasmus Kristensen to cost total of £21.3m with medical date revealed

Leeds United are reportedly paying a total of £21.3million for the transfer of Red Bull Salzburg right-back Rasmus Kristensen, according to Jeunes Footeux.

The French football news website reports that Leeds had been in talks over a deal for the 24-year-old Denmark international for “several weeks”.

It is understood now that agreements have been reached with all parties and Kristensen is set to sign a five-year contract.

Jeunes Footeux adds that the ex-Ajax right-back will jet into England for a medical with Leeds once he’s finished with international duty.

Denmark’s final game in this international break is on 13 June when they play Austria in Copenhagen in the UEFA Nations League.

Doing the maths?

It’s hard to believe that the transfer fee for Kristensen is as high as this report claims because everyone else is reporting it to be a lot lower.

The Telegraph reported on 2 June that the fee for the deal is worth up to £10million while Salzburger Nachrichten reported via their print edition on 3 June (page 18) that Kristensen even has a release clause of £11.8million in his deal at Salzburg.

We can therefore assume that this £21.3million figure includes Kristensen’s wages.

If the fee for Kristensen is £10million, that means his contract could be worth the rest of that figure – £11.3million. And that equates to him roughly earning £54,000-a-week, which sounds about right.

Over the course of that five-year contract, Kristensen could play a major role in helping Leeds continue to establish themselves back in the Premier League while also playing at the prime of his career.

It all makes sense as far as we’re concerned and if it means shoving Luke Ayling down the pecking order then we’re all for it.

Ayling’s form has been dipping and he simply isn’t a Premier League-level right-back.

Kristensen is a trophy-winning international who’s played at a top level in three different countries in Europe as well as the Champions League.
