Leeds United deal for Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Nadiem Amiri off after ‘crazy back and forth’

A deal for Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Nadiem Amiri to join Leeds United is once again off, according to Marlon Irlbacher.

The Sky Sports Germany reporter claimed on Monday night (28 August) that while Amiri was in Leeds on Monday (28 August) for final talks ahead of his Championship switch, neither party agreed to the move after “crazy back and forth”.

The midfielder, per Kicker (28 August), would have cost Leeds £5.15million after scoring four goals in the Bundesliga last season.

Crazy

Leeds’ pursuit of the German international has been difficult. While the midfielder would be unlikely to get many minutes under Xavi Alonso this season, his lack of commitment to a move is concerning.

According to Kicker (28 August), the 26-year-old had “given Farke his promise” to move to Yorkshire, but, his concerns that Leeds United may remain in the second division for more than a season sparked second thoughts.

While Amiri would make an excellent addition to Farke’s side in the Championship, if Leeds wants to recruit in this area before the end of the window they may be better off looking elsewhere rather than attempting to revive this deal once again.

Leeds United

Following their emphatic 4-3 victory over Ipswich Town, Leeds look the business up top following the reintroduction of Willy Gnonto into the side and the addition of former Swansea striker Joel Piroe who welcomed himself to Elland Road with a debut goal.

While promotion is never guaranteed due to the unpredictability of the Championship, Leeds would be a safe bet if you were looking for promotion to the Premier League. If Amiri has no other viable options and no place back in Germany, then a move to Leeds would be beneficial.

As a German international, the low price tag would also benefit Leeds greatly after their consistently cost-effective transfer window so far.

However, the deal could be dead in the water yet again.
