Leeds United deal for Aaronson complicated by Augustin ‘legal situation’
Leeds United are in ongoing talks to sign Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Brenden Aaronson but a deal is complicated, according to Manuel Veth.
Writing via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday night [26 January], the Forbes journalist reported that Leeds’ legal dispute with RB Leipzig over Jean-Kevin Augustin is a “factor” in the deal.
Leeds and Red Bull-owned Leipzig will come to blows at the Court for Arbitration in Sport in March after the Yorkshire club refused to sign Augustin from them in 2020 after winning promotion.
Veth reports that despite the legal dispute between Leeds and Red Bull, the Whites are locked in talks to sign Salzburg and USA midfielder Aaronson.
Leeds are said to be “still determined” to land the 21-year-old but Salzburg also want to keep him due to a Champions League knockout showdown with Bayern Munich next month.

Let it go
Salzburg aren’t going to sell Aaronson.
Leeds have been widely reported to have made two bids for the USA international and neither have been accepted by the Austrian giants.
Aaronson is one of their best players and they do not want to sell him this month – it is as simple as that.
The only way we can see the landscape of this changing is if Leeds offer to pay over the odds for the attacking midfielder or if the player hands in a transfer request.
Otherwise, Leeds need to give up and look elsewhere.
It’s stupid to have put all their eggs in one basket anyway.
Victor Orta will have no doubt had a long list of names of midfielders who he’d be happy for the Whites to sign but Marcelo Bielsa is probably only happy with Aaronson.
But as they cannot sign Aaronson this month, where do they turn?
Our midfield, for a Premier League club, is nowhere near as good or as deep as we need it to be.
This must change before 31 January.
In other Leeds United news, two players seem very likely to exit the club this year after a sighting in Manchester this week.
