Leeds United: ‘Critical’ Crysencio Summerville contract news emerges at Elland Road

Carlton Palmer has insisted Crysencio Summerville would be happy to sign a new contract at Leeds United if they are promoted to the Premier League, according to Carlton Palmer.

The former Leeds man also claimed any new deal would have to include a release clause to allow the winger to depart if and when he wanted.

It was also said that, even if Leeds aren’t promoted this season, a contract extension would allow the club to hold out for a higher fee to have more control over the outgoing deal.

Speaking to Football League World [8 April], Palmer shared: “Leeds United’s Crysencio Summerville is attracting attention from Premier League clubs Aston Villa and Brighton. He has been instrumental in Leeds United’s push to be back in the Premier League.

“Summerville’s future has become very critical to the club and they want to get the player tied down to a new contract, and obviously knowing that they are back in the Premier League would be hugely instrumental to them, because obviously his salary would depend on that.

“If they don’t get promoted then tying him down to a longer contract means they can hold out for the type of money that they want for his services.

“I think Summerville will be happy to sign a new contract. Of course, I think there will be a release clause in there should Leeds United get back to the Premier League so he can then move on, but the priority for them is to get him signed down as quickly as possible.”

Crysencio Summerville could sign new Leeds United contract

As well as the interest mentioned from Aston Villa and Brighton, Summerville has also been linked with European giants Liverpool, Atletico Madrid and AC Milan, all of whom would likely be able to afford a substantial transfer fee.

With 17 goals and eight assists in 38 league games, the winger has stepped up to the plate when his side needed them most, standing out as the face of Daniel Farke’s Leeds revolution as they search for promotion to the Premier League.

Any new deal would also likely see a large increase in Summerville’s wages, and given the financial situation at promotion rivals Leicester, Leeds may be wary of any drastic increases in their spending given the close eye being kept on them.

Those financial concerns may also lead to the winger’s eventual exit, as his sale would likely bring in a huge profit at Elland Road which would then be invested into strengthening the squad. Even with a new deal, and exit could be on the cards.
