Leeds United could table bid to sign midfielder Nahitan Nandez soon

Leeds United could table a bid to sign midfielder Nahitan Nandez from Cagliari “soon”, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.

The Italian news outlet has covered a story on the Marseille News website, which covers the Mail on Sunday’s report [2 January, page 141] about Leeds’ interest in Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara.

TuttoMercatoWeb then adds an extra snippet of information regarding 26-year-old Nandez, who’s been linked with Leeds in the past [La Nuova Sardegna].

It is understood that “Leeds could soon make a proposal to Cagliari” to sign Nandez and that signing him would cost £16.6million [€20million].

Midfield reinforcements

Is Nandez the new Rodrigo De Paul?

We really should have pushed harder to sign De Paul when we had the chance and we don’t want the same issue to come back and bite us in regards to Nandez.

He’s someone who’s seemingly getting linked with us in every transfer window but there’s a reason why – he’s a very good central midfielder.

Nandez is very versatile.

He’s made 16 Serie A appearances for Cagliari this season, playing on the right-wing, left-wing, the centre of the midfield and even as a number 10.

Marcelo Bielsa loves versatile players and Nandez is someone who could cover multiple areas should the Whites get hit with more injuries to add what has already been a frustrating campaign in terms of fitness issues.

Nandez has been described as an “all-round midfielder” and a “box-to-box midfielder” by 90min. He’s also “more than just a bundle of energy” and “he’s a capable passer and is brilliant at advancing play”.

Should we sign Nandez?

The Uruguay international is unlikely to come cheap but our midfield is crying out for a younger and more Premier League-ready version of Mateusz Klich and Nandez could be just that.

In other Leeds United news, one player should have signed for Leeds already as we examine three deals to complete in January.
