Leeds United could sell ‘Outstanding’ Junior Firpo amid transfer development
Leeds United may replace Junior Firpo with Daniel Svensson in January, according to Carlton Palmer.
The Championship high-flyers are conscious of the fact Firpo’s contract at Elland Road expires next summer, with the club seeking a potential Premier League-level upgrade.
Svensson, 22, is currently playing for Danish side Nordsjaelland and has played down the recent links.
“The issue that Leeds United have is Junior Firpo’s contract is up at the end of the season. He’s been outstanding for Leeds United again in the Championship, but he struggled in the Premier League. So, on that basis, you wouldn’t have thought that Leeds United would be rushing to offer him a contract,” former Whites midfielder Palmer told Football League World [27 November].
“He’s believed to be on really good money, so you wouldn’t see Leeds rushing to offer a new contract when they’re looking to get back to the Premier League, so the likelihood is perhaps that Junior Firpo will leave the club in the January transfer window and Leeds United will have to look to bring in a replacement with Daniel Svensson high up on their to-do list.
“It would be a really, really good signing if they could pull it off.”
Leeds United considering major Junior Firpo replacement
Svensson is a player many of a Leeds persuasion are so far unfamiliar with, but his age profile and ceiling are appealing.
As for Firpo, Leeds have a major decision to make – it seems apparent the club are uncertain about his capability at top-flight level, which has previously been called into question.
The left-back has been excellent for the majority of the season so far in the Championship, but the hierarchy appear to be looking for a long-term successor.

Leeds United are likely to be making a wise decision if they opt to replace Firpo, who may not be the Premier League full-back the club would need to survive among the elite.
For now, the Dominican remains an important part of Daniel Farke’s side, as they look to seal the deal this time around.
