Leeds United could sell Illan Meslier this summer to stay within PSR
Illan Meslier could be sold this summer as the Frenchman could be an “appealing prospect” for buyers, according to The Athletic.
The news outlet details that Meslier could be in an “interesting position” this summer due to his strong performances.
His sale could result in profit for Leeds which is exactly what they need if they wish to abide by PSR before June 30.
How good is Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier?
The 24-year-old, who Victor Orta brought to Elland Road, was arguably one of the better teams in Leeds’ line-up this season.
The ‘keeper won the Championship Golden Glove and was fairly consistent across the board.
His consistency hasn’t just appeared from nowhere however, as, when the Whites were in the Premier League, he was once again, a stand-out player.
Throughout the 2023/24 term, the 6 foot 4 goalkeeper managed to keep a total of 21 clean sheets across all competitions with 19 coming in the second tier.
In the season prior (Leeds’ last in the Premier League,) he was once again ever present within the squad.
Appearing 38 times and managing to keep a total of five clean sheets. Not only does this show the quality that he possesses but also the maturity he has developed.
Whilst in the top flight, he was touted by many to be the next big thing in terms of ‘keepers.
Following Leeds’ relegation, however, it feels as if he has almost stagnated as it’s evident the Frenchman is too good to be in the second tier.
However, despite all his qualities, there have been times when mistakes have shown and evidently cost the West Yorkshire outfit.
Although a fee hasn’t yet been mentioned in regard to what it would take to pry him away from the Whites, there’s no doubt that if a sale is on the cards this summer, any club would be lucky to have the former Lorient within their ranks.
