Leeds United could reignite interest in Adama Traore if Daniel James leaves
Leeds United could reignite their interest in Wolves winger Adama Traore if Daniel James leaves to join Tottenham before Thursday’s deadline, say 90min.
The Welsh winger has been linked with a move away in recent days, with Antonio Conte’s Spurs and Frank Lampard’s Everton side both linked with a loan-to-buy bid for the speedster.
Jesse Marsch has admitted he doesn’t expect any major transfers before the deadline on Thursday, however he didn’t shut the door on a move and that has given encouragement to clubs interested in a deal.
According to 90min on 31 August, Leeds are open to letting the player leave and should he find an agreement with Tottenham then the Whites could look to a long-term target in Traore to fill the void.
The Spain international is into the final year of his contract at Molineux, having spent the second half of last season on loan at Barcelona.
Speed for speed
If you ever wanted a like for like replacement to take place, this is as close to it as you can possibly get in the football world.
James and Traore have one stand-out ability over everything and everyone else and that’s their speed, both with incredible acceleration with and without the ball.
But Traore is by far the more technical footballer too, being able to beat his opponents consistently and using his size to hold the ball up well too without getting bullied off it, something that saw Tim Sherwood label him a “fantastic talent”.
An issue they both have is their final ball and consistency in the final third, but as an option late in games or in fixtures where the counter attack is a viable path to victory they could be huge weapons for Jesse Marsch.
It’s a deal that likely wouldn’t be expensive and arguably would improve the squad too, so should James make the move to north London then don’t be shocked if Traore makes the move to Elland Road in his place.
