Leeds United could offer player plus cash deal to sign Jorgen Strand Larsen before deadline

Jorgen Strand Larsen has emerged as a Leeds United transfer target in recent days.

Leeds are understood to be scouring the market for a striker as the winter window rolls on, with Wolves’ Strand Larsen linked with a move to Elland Road.

As ever, though, Leeds are having to be careful when it comes to PSR (Profitability and Sustainability Rules), as Paraag Marathe and the 49ers Enterprises look to back Daniel Farke as best they can.

Leeds are reportedly in talks to sign Romano Schmid from Werder Bremen, with the 25-year-old midfielder potentially costing Leeds up to £13million plus add-ons.

Leeds told of possible route to Jorgen Strand Larsen deal

Scoring goals hasn’t been a huge issue for Leeds so far this season, with their 30 scored in the league only three fewer than third-placed Aston Villa and fourth-placed Liverpool respectively.

However, behind the excellent Dominic Calvert-Lewin, the Whites don’t have a proven Premier League goalscorer at the centre-forward position.

And given his history of injury problems as well as general lack of depth behind him, the 28-year-old could also prove very tough to keep hold of in the summer if his form continues to the end of the season.

Therefore, looking towards the future at the striker position is a shrewd move by Leeds, and Strand Larsen would be an intriguing and quality addition.

However, Wolves have seemingly set a £40m price tag on the big Norwegian, which for a newly-promoted side, is an awful lot of money to spend on one player in their first season back at the level.

But, as per a report from the Yorkshire Evening Post on Monday, it’s been suggested that any deal for Strand Larsen would need to be constructed in a way that enables Leeds to stay in the PSR good books.

It’s stated that a loan to buy would be an easier route to a deal, but Leeds could also consider a swap deal involving a relatively fringe player in order to pay a discounted transfer fee for him.

Who might Leeds include in Strand Larsen deal?

Naturally, should Strand Larsen move to Elland Road, then offering Wolves a striker as part of the deal would be a requirement from the Wanderers end.

Leeds reportedly have a one-out, one-in policy regarding Strand Larsen, and Joel Piroe could be a very pragmatic option in this case.

The 26-year-old is seemingly a player Leeds are looking to sell this month, and it was only last season he topped the Championship scoring charts with 19.

Therefore, he could be an integral part of Wolves’ promotion push back to the Premier League next season.

Another candidate could be Illan Meslier, as Wolves are sure to lose both Jose Sa and Sam Johnstone in the summer, leaving just Daniel Bentley as their only other senior goalkeeper in that case.

Meslier is coming to the end of his Leeds contract and doesn’t look to be in Farke’s plans, and he could be a player Wolves would have interest in to possibly solve their shot-stopping dilemma next season.
