Leeds United could launch last-ditch bid to re-sign Charlie Taylor as Burnley transfer news emerges

Leeds United could be set to launch a last-ditch bid to re-sign defender Charlie Taylor from Burnley in the January transfer window, according to Graeme Bailey.

The HITC journalist told LeedsUnited.News on Friday (26 January) that the Whites could make a bid for the 30-year-old left-back, who Sean Dyche previously dubbed as being “powerful”, if he becomes available for a transfer this month.

But he added that he doesn’t believe Daniel Farke is desperate to improve his defensive options despite appearing to be a little bit short at fullback.

“I’m surprised Leeds didn’t get one in before allowing [Luke] Ayling to go,” said Bailey. “Ben Johnson is off the table now, he’s not leaving West Ham – is my understanding. Calvin Ramsey is nowhere near good enough. I like Archie Gray, Shackleton too. Interesting one. I think Leeds are doing it right.

“If the right one is there – Connor Roberts is an interesting one, he’s a solid player. If Charlie Taylor was available, I think Leeds would look at him. It tells me, and from what I’ve heard, Leeds are not desperate to get one in terms of they don’t have to. If the right one is there, they’ll do it.”

Patient

It sounds as though Leeds are taking their time to see if any potential deals present themselves that are right to improve the squad.

It is slightly surprising that they didn’t have anyone lined up once Djed Spence was sent back to Tottenham and Luke Ayling joined Middlesbrough on loan earlier this month.

But Farke appears to be relatively comfortable with his current options despite several of them being relatively injury-prone, which could come back to cost the Whites in the second half of the season.

Taylor would certainly be a signing that would raise eyebrows as a return to Elland Road would add more experience to the backline for the promotion push.

But that deal is not currently on the table for the academy product, so it’s one of those situation where we’ll just have to wait and see what happens over the next few days.
