Leeds United could allow Daniel James loan to Tottenham, may lead to Aston Villa signing Lucas Moura
Leeds United could allow Daniel James to join Tottenham on loan if Hwang Hee-chan joins from Wolves before 11pm on deadline day, according to Telegraph journalist Mike McGrath.
Writing on the newspaper’s website on Wednesday (31 August), McGrath reported that each of those deals would have a knock-on effect and Aston Villa hope that James’ potential move to Spurs would lead to Lucas Moura becoming available.
It is understood that Steven Gerrard would need to persuade Lucas, 30, to give up Champions League football but James, 26, could add a lot of competition for the Brazilian.
Transfer knock-on effect
Wolves, Leeds, Spurs and Aston Villa could all be intertwined in a web of transfers on deadline day.
It doesn’t seem as though anything is going to happen on Wednesday but with Wolves now signing Sasa Kalajdzic, they could be more open to letting Hwang join Leeds.
If Hwang joins Leeds, James could become available for Tottenham to sign him on loan.
And the final piece in the puzzle is Lucas and Aston Villa – will he join them?
It’ll be a big signing for Steven Gerrard at Villa Park with the Liverpool legend under a lot of pressure there due to a terrible start to the season.
Leeds, on the other hand, are not under as much pressure and they shouldn’t be looking at wheeling and dealing at this stage.
We’ve already seen with Rodrigo, Luis Sinisterra, Luke Ayling, Stuart Dallas and Patrick Bamford in recent months that an injury can completely rock the squad.
If we sign Hwang, James should stay because we need him for the extra depth and he can have an impact as a substitute due to his pace and ability to play anywhere in the attack.
Leeds shouldn’t entertain loaning him out and only sell him if a big-money offer is made.
