Leeds United contract rebel Gjanni Alioski has one more shop window match

Ezgjan Alioski will almost certainly play in North Macedonia’s final match at Euro 2020 today (Monday) ahead of deciding his future at Leeds United, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The newspaper reports that Leeds are prepared to hold further discussions with the 29-year-old in a bid to keep him at Elland Road as his existing deal expires next week.

It is understood an offer is on the table for Alioski, which still stands. However, the North Macedonia international has held fire on making a decision on his future amid speculation linking him with a move to Turkey.

D-Day soon

Alioski will have to make a decision as soon as possible because he’s surely holding Leeds up in some of their plans for the summer.

While it is widely expected that the Whites will sign a new left-back regardless of whether Alioski stays or goes, Victor Orta and Marcel Bielsa might have to sign an extra one if the ex-Lugano ace does quit Elland Road.

We wouldn’t blame Gjanni if he did.

At the end of the day, he’s likely to lose his place as a mainstay of Bielsa’s starting line-up next season and it’s been clearly in the last year that he has not performed as well as he would have hoped in the Premier League.

Still, Alioski has made a superb account of himself.

He did have some great performances in the top-flight and his 2020/21 campaign culminated in scoring for North Macedonia at the European Championships in their first-ever major international tournament.

Alioski has had some time at Leeds and we’ll respect his decision.

But we don’t like that he’s dragging it out and seemingly waiting to see what offers present themselves after playing for his contract at the Euros.
