Leeds United: Connor Roberts permanent deal rated after Burnley loan expires
Leeds United are unlikely to sign Connor Roberts permanently for the 2024/25 season from Burnley, according to Graeme Bailey.
While speaking to LeedsUnited.news (22 March), the journalist was asked if the full-back was likely to move to Elland Road on a permanent deal at the end of the season.
But with Rasmus Kristensen set to return from his loan at Roma and the club looking at being promoted to the Premier League, Bailey admits he would be “surprised” to see the Wales international still at the club next season.
“I don’t see it particularly, especially if Kristensen ends up coming back,” he said.
“I think Roberts has been OK, if he was available for very little, it is a possibility.
“You’ve got squad players but what does Roberts offer that Sam Byram doesn’t, kind of thing. It is a tough one but I don’t see him being a long-term part for Leeds, being honest. I would be surprised if he came in.”
No surprise if Connor Roberts leaves Leeds United
Roberts has been really good for this Leeds United squad since his arrival in January, with his ability to play on both flanks and being defensively solid being a huge boost.
But it’s easy to forget that the only reason he even came to Elland Road this season is because Djed Spence was sent back to Spurs for issues behind the scenes and Luke Ayling was allowed to leave the club six months early to join Middlesbrough.
That created a gap in the squad that needed filling and Roberts was someone who is experienced and available that could be brought in to aid the team’s promotion bid.

But the fact of the matter is that realistically he isn’t the best option for the Premier League and if the club are to get back to the top flight they will need more.
If he is available for the right price and is happy being a back-up option then it could make sense with Junior Firpo potentially leaving also, but realistically the club should be looking at better targets.
