Leeds United condition to sign Liverpool ace Caoimhin Kelleher shared

Leeds United have “serious interest” in signing Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher although it may hinge on their ability to get promoted, according to TEAMtalk.

With Illan Meslier edging towards an exit, Leeds have initiated their search for his replacement and according to TEAMtalk’s report (18 December), Kelleher has been identified.

The report (18 December) states that the Whites will face competition from Champions League clubs in the race to sign the ‘keeper, while adding that they will only have a chance at winning the race on the condition they can achieve promotion this season.

Leeds will certainly be in the market for an upgrade on Meslier despite being set to sign youngster Robbie Cook from Perth Glory.

Leeds United must achieve promotion his season

With the Kelleher deal hinging on promotion, achieving it remains paramount and it should provide that extra encouragement to have a real go in January.

The Irish ‘keeper isn’t the only player to be linked with a Premier League-dependant move to Elland Road, with Ben Godfrey also linked to Leeds (TBR).

Not only will promotion open the door for many arrivals, it would provide the Whites with a serious bargaining chip in an attempt to keep some of their key players who will undoubtedly be the subject of interest regardless of what happens this season.

With that said, Leeds have made an excellent start to achieving promotion and they are sitting just three points off of the summit of the Championship but January could provide them with that extra 10 per cent to get them over the line.

Given the failure to get promoted last time out, the importance of doing so this season has been ramped up and Daniel Farke will be fully aware of the pressure on the club to deliver.
