Leeds United condition to sign Josh Brownhill named as pre-contract mooted
Leeds United would need to gain promotion to the Premier League to even be in the “conversation” of signing Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill, according to Graeme Bailey.
The journalist was speaking to Leeds United News (19 November) and said that the fact his contract is expiring this season could “count against them” as clubs from outside England could swoop in for him before they are given a chance.
Bailey went into further detail about Brownhill’s situation and shared which other cubs have thrown their hats into the ring.
“Josh Brownhill is a player Leeds have liked for a long time, and the fact he is out of contract next summer is something they are well aware of. Brownhill is having a great season in the Championship and he would really be of interest to Leeds going forward,” he said.
“Leeds know that the only way they would be in the conversation is if they get promoted, which could count against them as foreign clubs, including Celtic and Rangers, could agree a pre-contract before Leeds have the chance to make an official offer.”
Josh Brownhill would be a stellar signing for Leeds United
Leeds’ midfield has already been through plenty of change this season with the likes of Archie Gray and Glen Kamara leaving for pastures new in the summer.
Of course, both Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev stayed put in West Yorkshire and were starting to strike up an impressive partnership this season before the duo were injured which resulted in Ao Tanaka and Joe Rothwell filling the voids.
Their injuries left Daniel Farke a bit light in the centre of the park which is why former Bundesliga ace Josuha Guilavogui was brought in as a backup.

Brownhill’s arrival would be welcomed with open arms and would help shore up Leeds’ midfield and provide them with another option to line up with.
The fact he’d also be available on a free transfer would mean that plenty of money would still be available to target other players in the market if they were to gain promotion.
He also has plenty of experience in the top tier and could help mentor the younger members of the team into becoming better players if given the chance.
