Jayden Lienou signs three-year contract for Leeds United after Manchester City transfer

Leeds have signed former Manchester City defender Jayden Lienou on a three-year contract.

The Whites announced (10 July) that the left-back is set to continue his development at Thorp Arch, having tied his future at Elland Road until 2028.

After playing a regular role in the Sky Blues’ U18 Premier League North triumph, the Welshman will now link up with the Peacocks’ Under-21 team.

The Welsh youngster may hope to make a name for himself with the West Yorkshire outfit’s youth side and possibly convince Farke to give him an opportunity in the coming months.

Lienou could be long-term replacement for Sam Byram

Sam Byram has extended his contract at Leeds by another season and will continue to play a part in LS11 after helping the club secure Premier League promotion.

Junior Firpo’s exit left the Whites’ recruitment department scrambling for his replacement, but the German manager now has plenty of options in defence.

Gundmundsson’s arrival from LOSC Lille was a seeming priority after the Dominican Republic international left-back’s departure, and the West Yorkshire outfit can now hopefully shift focus on strengthening other areas of the pitch.

Lienou has an opportunity to stake his claim at Leeds and be Byram’s successor once the 31-year-old eventually leaves.

The Whites have undoubtedly seen something in the 17-year-old to convince them to include him in their youth squad.

With the young Welshman’s future ahead of him, it will be interesting to see how he develops in the years to come.
