Leeds United ‘close the door’ on Wilfried Gnonto transfer amid Everton interest

Leeds United have “closed the door” on Wilfried Gnonto leaving this summer amid a transfer bid from Everton, according to Ignazio Genuardi.

Writing on his personal Twitter account (27 July), the former editor of F365 France is reporting that the Italy international is a “concrete” target for the Toffees this summer.

But the Whites have now shut the door on any potential exit for 19-year-old Gnonto as they look to earn promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt under the 49ers ownership.

After missing M.Dembele and EB Toure, Everton is active on the file of the Nigerian striker Iheanacho (Leicester),” he wrote.

“This is one of the new priorities, Gnonto being another concrete target, even though Leeds closed the door.”

Perfect

If the 49ers want to align themselves with the fan base then this is the perfect way to do it – keep the best players at the club and get back to the Premier League.

Everton have already had a £15m bid rejected for the Italy international and with no release clause in his contract like most of the squad, Leeds are in full control of his future at this point.

The player has shown no “burning desire” to leave Elland Road at this point either, and it seems like the perfect fit for everyone that he stays put and gets more regular football to cement himself as one of the main men at Leeds.

There was always going to be big interest in his signature but after only joining last summer, there is plenty of time remaining on his contract and the club have made it clear he was one of the players they really wanted to see stay.

It now looks like that is the plan and Daniel Farke can count on arguably his best attacker to still be at the club once the window slams shut next month.
