Leeds United: Che Adams transfer ‘almost certain’ as Southampton ‘problem’ emerges
Che Adams is “almost certain” to leave Southampton on a free transfer this summer, but Leeds United will have to earn promotion to bring him to Elland Road, according to Carlton Palmer.
The former Leeds man insisted Adams has both international and Premier League experience which would make him a valuable asset for interested clubs.
It is said Adams was disappointed he couldn’t leave Southampton in January which has become a problem for the striker who is not the first-choice option at St Mary’s.
Speaking to Football League World [16 April], Palmaer shared: “It’s almost certain that Che Adams will depart Southampton in the summer. He was disappointed that he wasn’t allowed to leave the football club, which is the football club’s right.
“If the deal wasn’t right, then of course he shouldn’t be allowed to leave the football club. That has been a problem for Che, but even still he hasn’t been a regular starter for Southampton this season. He’s still chipped in with 14 goals.
“He’s got valuable international and Premier League experience, so the two clubs who are said to be very keen on him are Wolves and Leeds United.
“At the end of the day, Leeds United under Daniel Farke have done really, really well, they’re pushing for an automatic place. For Leeds to have any chance of signing Che Adams they’ve got to be in the Premier League.”
Leeds United want to sign Che Adams in Southampton transfer news
It was said previously that Leeds would look to sign Adams regardless of whether they are promoted this season, despite Palmer’s claims, as Daniel Farke will look to strengthen his attacking options come the end of the season.
There has been criticism for both Patrick Bamford and Joel Piroe at times this season, with the attacking burden often falling to Georginino Rutter and Crysencio Summerville to provide the finishing touch under Farke’s leadership.
After back-to-back games in which Farke’s team has failed to score at Elland Road, their issues up front were clear against Blackburn in particular, with Bamford and Piroe struggling in front of goal and failing to make the difference.

Adams, while not the most prolific of goalscorers, should provide a boost to Leeds’ opportunities going forward with his bullish style and ability going forward having seen him impress both for Southampton and Scotland.
In other Leeds United news, Martin O’Neill has shared a “major disappointment” with Leeds.
