Leeds United: Borussia M’Gladbach to open talks for permanent Max Wober transfer in weeks
Borussia Monchengladbach are set to open talks with Leeds United in weeks about the permanent signing of Max Wober, according to Gladbach Live.
Writing on their website (1 March), the news outlet report that the Bundesliga club are keen to keep the loanee for the 2024/25 season after paying a £428k fee last summer.
Wober is contracted with Gladbach until June 30 so there is no rush on the deal, but talks are expected to take place in the “coming weeks” with a permanent Elland Road exit expected to be agreed.
“In the professional squad, the transfer plans for two players at Borussia Mönchengladbach are already clear: Max Wöber (26) and Jordan Siebatcheu (27) should stay over the coming summer,” they wrote.
“Both loan players are tied to the Foals until June 30, 2024, so things will probably come to the negotiating table in the coming weeks and months.”
Max Wober won’t be missed at Leeds United
Jesse Marsch made the decision to strengthen the Whites defence with the addition of Wober in January 2023, and he looked a solid signing.
But he wasn’t able to keep the team in the Premier League and then ditched the club at the first opportunity in the summer window to head elsewhere.
Is he good enough to play in the Premier League should Daniel Farke get the team back there? Probably. Will he be missed if he leaves permanently after limited time at the club? Definitely not.

Joe Rodon has come into the centre of defence and immediately helped the team improve, especially with the way that the club has transformed under Farke’s management, and bringing back loanees who couldn’t stop the team going down initially probably isn’t the best model.
Wober still has plenty of time remaining on his contract so Leeds are in a strong negotiating position for a permanent deal, and making their money back has to be the bare minimum to let him leave.
