Leeds United booked hotel for Max Aarons before transfer twist – Phil Hay

Leeds United booked a hotel for Norwich City defender Max Aarons before he backed out of the move, according to Phil Hay.

The Athletic journalist reported on 10 August that the deal for the 23-year-old reached the stage of the medical on 9 August and there were plans in place to unveil him as a Whites player.

But he said a call then came in from Premier League side Bournemouth to throw a spanner into the works and he was on his way to the south coast to complete a move to Dean Court.

Disappointing

There will be a lot of emotions surrounding those associated with Leeds following this transfer saga, but the overriding feeling will probably be of disappointment that he isn’t joining the club.

In Hay’s report, he details that the Whites were confident there would be no last-minute complications with the deal due to Daniel Farke, who worked with Aarons at Norwich previously.

But the lure of Premier League football – even if it is with a side that are likely to be caught up in a relegation battle – was clearly too much for the player to resist.

It’s not great by any means that he walked out of a medical and the club went as far as to book a hotel for him, but it’s incredibly hard to compete with clubs in the top flight, financially and in football terms.

It’s now time to go back to the drawing board and see who else is available to add some more quality to the side with three weeks left of the transfer window.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites must act quickly to land one of the Championship’s best midfielders.
