Leeds United bid update as ‘£16m Latte Lath offer accepted’ by Middlesbrough

Leeds United are yet to make an official bid for Middlesbrough striker Emmanuel Latte Lath with a verbal agreement now in place with Atlanta United, according to Ben Jacobs.

Writing for Give Me Sport [16 January], Jacobs claimed the Whites have not yet made an official offer for Latte Lath despite reported transfer interest at Elland Road [Leeds United News].

Middlesbrough are said to have verbally accepted an offer in the region of £16million from the MLS side, a figure unlikely to be met by Leeds for a player who has 10 Championship goals this season.

Leeds United must move on from Emmanuel Latte Lath interest

While it would have been a signing that could have cannonballed them to promotion, it is also one that now appears drastically unlikely and the Whites must move on and pursue other targets.

There has been little transfer movement at Elland Road so far and, while that isn’t necessarily cause for immediate concern, that could change if the story stays the same in the coming days.

Given how tightly contested the top four is in the Championship, one or two additions could be the difference between promotion or not and Leeds can’t afford to take that risk.

Rival clubs have already set out their stalls in a bid to strengthen their own chances while, as it stands, the Whites are sitting twiddling their thumbs.

It’s hard to imagine too much transfer activity in the coming weeks, but it will certainly test the ambition of the hierarchy as the promotion race heats up.
