Leeds United battling with Manchester City and Tottenham for Celtic youngster Rory Mahady

Leeds are set to compete with both Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur for Celtic starlet Rory Mahady this summer, according to Daily Record.

The Whites have reportedly been tracking the Scotland Under-17 international’s progress for ‘some time’ but now the Premier League champions and and Spurs are said to have joined the race for his signature.

Celtic are keen to keep hold of the goalkeeper, but they face a major battle to keep hold of him and Leeds are ready to make their move ahead of their Premier League rivals.

Mahady doesn’t turn 16 until later this year, but is regarded as ‘one of the best young keepers in Britain’. He would be unable to sign a professional contract until his birthday in August.

He would be a signing for the academy of any club he joins but it now seems highly unlikely that he will remain at Celtic beyond this summer.

Talent

The Whites are constantly looking to add talent to their academy ranks and by getting someone in that is as highly rated as Mahady would be a real coup for the club.

There would be no rush for him to develop quickly because of his age and the fact they have two young goalkeepers already in the first-team.

It would be a great show of intent from the board however to be able to pip two of the richest clubs in the country to an elite young talent and would show there is real planning for the future going on at Elland Road.

The likes of young Archie Gray, Joe Gelhardt and then Mahady would be a brilliant young core to build on for the next decade and a half but it will be difficult to convince him to choose Thorp Arch and Leeds over Man City or Tottenham.
