Leeds United backed to secure Gus Hamer signing if ‘key factor’ is met

Leeds United have to start preparing for life in the Premier League with a big job ahead of them next season.

The Whites have done an excellent job of achieving promotion back to the top flight under Daniel Farke, but that is only half the battle and now retaining a position in the top flight is the important thing.

With that in mind, the boss will need to make additions to his side to make sure there is the necessary strength to try and stay in the Premier League.

Leeds could sign Gus Hamer

Leeds have plenty of decisions to make ahead of the summer transfer window, one of which is the manager that will be guiding the Whites forward.

Although he has achieved his aims at Elland Road this season, it has been reported that the 49ers are considering parting ways with Farke ahead of their time in the Premier League.

Regardless of who is going to be the boss, they will need to be ready to look at the market and make the necessary additions to the side.

One man who has been mooted for a move to West Yorkshire is Gus Hamer, who has continued to do well with Sheffield United.

The midfielder has made 40 appearances for the Blades this term, scoring nine goals and contributing seven assists.

In the Premier League with his current side, he registered six goal contributions as he played regularly, making 36 appearances.

Lee Hendrie has told Football League World (28 April) that he could see Leeds going in for him now, having previously held interest.

He said: “Obviously [Leeds] were interested [in Hamer], and particularly if the Blades don’t go up, I think that is going to be the key factor, isn’t it?

“He’s a very good player, and he has had a lot of clubs that were sniffing around him, even before going to Sheffield United.

“He’s proven that he has got that X-Factor, one of the better players in the Championship arguably, in that position, anyway.

“You’d feel that Leeds may look at him, and feel that he could be a good addition to them. I think he could be, for sure.

“I can’t really rule out that Sheffield United won’t get promoted; I’ve just got a feeling that they will.

“That’ll be down to Gus Hamer, but I’m pretty sure that Leeds will be looking for very similar sort of players that they can attract, probably not with such a big fee.

“Gus would tick the box for them, so it wouldn’t surprise me if they go for him if (Sheffield United) are not promoted.”

Hamer signing may be ambitious for Leeds

Hamer wouldn’t be a bad shout as a signing for Leeds to go in form, especially as a player with previous Premier League experience and continuing to perform well with the Blades.

Furthermore, in a struggling Sheffield United side, he performed at the top and therefore, he could look to do the same, if not more, with a Leeds side that has big ambitions.

That being said, Chris Wilder’s side getting promoted will surely have a big part to play in any potential deal, as Hendrie suggests, given he could have the opportunity to play in the top flight again with his current club.

In addition to this, there is a Yorkshire rivalry between the two sides so supporters at Bramall Lane may not be so forgiving if he was to leave for West Yorkshire.

If other sides are interested in his services this summer, Hamer could well choose something else as a safer option.
