Leeds United already find Jorgen Strand Larsen alternative in 10-goal gem

Leeds have identified a new striker target after they were beaten to the signing of Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Leeds are set to miss out on Strand Larsen, with Crystal Palace launching a £50million offer for the Norwegian striker.

Daniel Farke‘s side had looked to be leading the race for the 25-year-old, but the Eagles have swooped and look set to seal the forward’s signature.

The Elland Road outfit may also have to battle another Premier League club to seal their alternative target late in the transfer window.

Who is Leeds’ Strand-Larsen alternative?

Leeds’ Profit and Sustainability issues may have scuppered their Strand Larsen pursuit, but they have another option already.

A report from the Daily Mail on 29 January claims that Genk’s Oh Hyeon-gyu is of interest to both the LS11 outfit and Fulham, as the deadline closes in.

It states that the Cottagers are evaluating the South Korea star who has 10 goals in 30 matches in all competitions this season, and the Peacocks have also checked on him.

Who is Oh Hyeon-gyu and why do Leeds want him?

Hyeon-gyu started his career with Suwon Samsung Bluewings, making 53 appearances for the Blue, White and Reds, with 14 goals.

He then moved to Gimcheon Sangmu FC, where he featured 40 times, scoring nine times for the sporting division of the armed forces.

That form earned him a move to Celtic, where he scored 12 goals in 47 matches for the Scottish outfit, before moving to his current club in Belgium.

He has enjoyed life with Nicky Hayen’s side, with 22 goals in 71 appearances, since making the switch to the four-time Belgian champions.

The 24-year-old has 24 caps for the Korean national team, with six goals in those matches, showing that he can handle the pressure of the biggest stages.

He is known for his ability to hold up the ball and outmuscle defenders with his strength, which would make his perfect for Farke’s side, as it matches with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha’s styles.

He boasts a high work rate, putting in the hard yards to help his team secure their ambitions, so he should fit the bill in Yorkshire, and make an impression on supporters, if he signs for the Whites.
