Leeds United agree deal in principle for Ao Tanaka signing, bonuses detailed
Leeds United have agreed a “deal in principle” to sign Ao Tanaka from Fortuna Dusseldorf, according to The Athletic.
The online outlet reported on 29 August that a deal in principle had been reached for the Japan international.
The 25-year-old will now travel to Elland Road for his medical, before completing a transfer worth £2.95million, including bonuses.
Leeds United set to sign Ao Tanaka
Leeds looks to have landed their direct replacement for Glen Kamara who left earlier in the window to join Stade Rennais.
The season has started with Ethan Amadu in midfield alongside Ilia Gruev but adding Tanaka into that mix could make Daniel Farke’s side harder to beat.
The midfielder is entering his fourth season as a regular for the German side and has impressed in his time despite being in the 2. Bundesliga.
His reputation is well known with Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna picking him out after a preseason friendly against Dusseldorf [Goal.com].
The Tractor Boys have made some positive signings in recent years so it is a great compliment to Tanaka.

If the Japanese midfielder can maintain his solid form from recent years, it is safe to say that the Whites are getting a great player late on in the transfer window.
This deal looks set to kick start a busy and exciting end to the summer which had been largely quiet until this point.
In other Leeds United news, Willy Gnonto could exit with last-gasp transfer offer on the cards.
