Leeds United agree Glen Kamara transfer in exit twist at Elland Road
Leeds United have agreed an £8.5million deal with Rennes to sell Glen Kamara, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Writing on his personal X account (13 July), the reliable journalist reports that personal terms are already agreed between the Finland international and the Ligue 1 club.
Rennes have had a long-standing interest in Kamara and have now agreed a deal with the Whites to sign him, just 12 months after he signed from Rangers in a deal worth £5million.
Leeds United sell Glen Kamara to Rennes
The Whites had been adamant that this summer any sales would be on their own terms [YEP, 17 June] after they lost Archie Gray to Tottenham, so this is a bit of a weird one.
Midfield options are already scarce at Elland Road after his exit, with Ethan Ampadu mostly playing in defence last season which left just Kamara and Ilia Gruev as options.
Joe Rothwell signed for the club out of nowhere recently and many speculated that he could be a direct replacement, but it wouldn’t boost numbers if that were the case.
However, Kamara clearly wants to play regularly at a high level and being offered a £3.5million profit for a midfielder who is approaching 29-years-old doesn’t happen often.
The club have clearly weighed it up and decided that it’s the right thing to do, but Daniel Farke now must be promised replacements of an adequate quality or the promotion charge will take a huge hit.
