Leeds United ace Patrick Bamford transfer news emerges amid Wrexham links
Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney will have to dig deep to bring Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford to Wrexham, according to Olly Dawes.
The Wrexham Insider journalist told leedsunited.news on 23 December that Bamford’s wages will certainly impact the structure at the club so the celebrity owners will have to help out to sign the English forward.
It’s understood that there are unlikely to be too many clubs showing an interest in the 31-year-old this winter. [Beren Cross, 11 November]
Dawes said: “Wrexham certainly need a new striker with recent draws, coming as a result of failing to take chances. Phil Parkinson would’ve once called upon Mullin to kill these games off.
“He’s scored just once in League One. A striker who can make a big impact in League One and potentially score goals at Championship level will be the aim for Wrexham. Bamford fits that bill when at his best.
“We would be concerned about his injury record and his lack of game time whilst the biggest stumbling block will be wages. Bamford’s current wages at Leeds would blow most of the Wrexham squad away.
“So Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds would have to dig deep to strike a deal. We would love to see a striker arrive in January but blowing the budget on Bamford may not be the best use of funds.”
Leeds United need to get Patrick Bamford off their wage bill
For Leeds, offloading Bamford from their wage bill is a priority due to his high salary and limited playing time this season.
His current wages represent a significant financial burden, particularly since he has only played in eight of Leeds’ league matches, contributing no goals or assists.
Given his injury record and the team’s depth in forward positions, moving him out could free up funds for other squad investments or financial stability.
A loan move to Wrexham could be feasible if the Whites even have to pay only 20-30 per cent of his wages, making the deal more attractive for Wrexham despite their budget constraints.
This arrangement would not only alleviate some financial pressure from the Whites but also allow Bamford to regain match fitness and form in a competitive environment, potentially increasing his value or utility for future considerations.

It remains to be seen what Wrexham’s stance on such a proposal would be.
