Leeds United ace Crysencio Summerville named by Arne Slot in transfer admission

Feyenoord manager Arne Slot has admitted that he would have liked to have signed Crysencio Summerville during the January transfer window, but the Leeds United winger was too expensive.

Summerville has been in fine form for Daniel Farke’s side this season, scoring 12 goals and laying on a further seven assists for his teammates to help the Whites climb into the Championship’s automatic promotion places.

However, that excellent record in front of goal has seen him catch the attention of a number of sides in the Premier League and Europe, with Slot admitting he is a big admirer of the 22-tear-old winger.

As quoted by Voetbalzone (3 February) he said: “We couldn’t find a player who strengthened us at the top and who was achievable for us, otherwise he would have been there. It’s not difficult to find such a player, because I can think of a lot.

“Only it must also fit within our financial possibilities, a player must want to come to us and have the will to play in the Eredivisie. We also don’t play in the Champions League anymore. In short: there are a lot of things that have to fall in the right place, but that didn’t happen in our case. So that pin wasn’t found.

“I would have liked to see Summerville walking on the sides with us, but it is too expensive. I can also call someone else that, but I have been finding him an interesting player for a long time.”

Leeds United face a transfer battle

Leeds United almost had the perfect January window when it came to keeping hold of their most important players, as Farke managed to keep the likes of Georginio Rutter, Summerville and Wilfried Gnonto at Elland Road for at least another six months.

The Italian winger is even expected to sign a new contract with talks over terms beginning to get closer. However, that is only half the battle for the Whites this season.

Leeds United
Crysencio Summerville was Leeds’ saviour against both Watford and Hull, but has been well dealt with by both Coventry and Sunderland in recent days.

That interest won’t just go away, instead, it will continue to bubble in the background and teams will look to swoop and secure their targets come the end of the season. If Leeds are still in the Championship, they will be powerless to keep their biggest starts.

Hopefully, the Whites can book their place back in England’s top flight and then once again price interested parties out of moves for their biggest stars as they have done over the last month.
